So, you wanna get a corn?

If you're looking into getting a corn, you will need to do a little research. Corns are one of the easiest snakes to keep. They come in a wide variety of colors (morphs) and seem to do well being handled. One thing you should always keep in mind with thinking about getting a snake as a pet: "It's not a matter of if you're going to get bitten, it's a matter of when". All snakes bite, some just do more damage than others. A bite from a small corn will feel about like a bit of velcro pressed into your skin then pulled away. I've seen people look away and get bitten and not even feel it. Bites from larger corns will sting a bit more, and may draw blood, but they can't do any real damage. Corn snakes are NOT venomous. They are constrictors, (meaning that they constrict their food) but they are not strong enough to hurt people. If a corn started constricting you, all you have to do is pull it away from what ever it is constricting.

Because corns are so popular for being so colorful, laid back, and easy to take care of, plenty of people are snatching them up. Just because everyone says corns are easy to take care of, you shouldn't skip doing the research. typing corn snake into google will churn up lots of information, some good, some wrong. You should always stop and look to see who has put the information up online before you take it to heart. You wouldn't go see a dentist for a heart transplant, why would you take information about a different species and expect it to hold true for your new corn?

Do your research

First off, visit www.cornutopia.com . This is Kathy Love's site. she is considered to be one of the best in the business, if you're serious about corns, go buy her book.

example: this is the sticky from the feeding and health issues sub forum http://cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28342

Another great corn forum is http://www.cornsnakesource.com/forum/
Again, follow the rules. they don't have to put up with you if you feel like you can get away with breaking the rules.

Don Soderburg lives close to San Antonio, his website is www.cornsnakes.net. He is also one of the biggest names in the business and has put together a book. It just came out in the last year. If you're really into corns, this is another great reference to have around.
